Stockport Festival Chorus: Brahms Choral Works

Following the enormous musical and artistic success of our performance of the Verdi Requiem in the Bridgewater Hall in April this year we are going to use the same formula of having a study weekend in September and a performance at the end of March 2008.
We will be studying five of Brahms’ shorter choral works.
1. Song of Destiny
2.a Ave Maria (female voices)
2.b Alto Rhapsody (male voices)
3. Song of the Fates
4. Nanie
Brahms’ ‘Requiem’ is one of the most successful works we have studied in the past, but it is often performed by local choral societies, and in addition is very hard on the voice. These pieces have all the magic of this greatest of composers, and together make a concert of equal stature to the ‘Requiem’, but are much easier to learn and equally enjoyable, but not so taxing , to sing. We shall be using the same excellent orchestra for this.
Copies will be available to hire at a cost of £3 (please tick the appropriate box on the application form)
Dates of the two weekends are:
1. A study weekend Friday 28 and Saturday 29 September at a venue in the Stockport area
2. The performance weekend -rehearsal as usual on Friday and Saturday 28/29 March followed by a rehearsal and performance in the Royal Northern College of Music 30 March 2008.
We are particularly eager to keep together the very good choir that took part in the Verdi ‘Requiem’ at the Bridgewater Hall and indeed to add to it!
Please try to come to both weekends (even if you cannot attend every rehearsal!) so that we can maintain the very good standard achieved in the Verdi.
